Israeli attack on Iraqi Osirak reactor in 1981 shows effectiveness of pre-emptive strikes for stopping nuclear weapons programs
Operation Opera also known as Operation Babylon, was a surprise Israeli air strike carried out on 7 June 1981, which destroyed an Iraqi nuclear reactor under construction 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) southeast of Baghdad. The attack is often used as an example of how a pre-emptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities could succeed.
